It's a challenge to have a comic about a character who doesn't speak a translatable language. This comic dealt with that problem wonderfully. The dialogue worked out well. Even in the many panels without word bubbles, the artwork did an excellent job of conveying emotion to the reader. I like Phil Noto's Star Wars illustrations and look forward to seeing his work in more Star Wars comics to come. The story is pretty basic. Chewbacca crash lands and finds himself in the middle of a local rebellion. My favorite parts of this comic were the small things. I enjoyed seeing prequel era alien species in an original trilogy setting. There are flashbacks of Chewbacca's life that I wish were fledged out more. That's the Chewbacca comic I want. We see a glimpse of his family. Is that Lumpy becoming canon? There are flashbacks to enslavement on Kashyyyk. I hope Chuck Wendig's second Aftermath novel, Life Debt picks up some of that story.
The spirit of Chewie is definitely captured int his comic. I loved seeing him gambling. Without Han by his side, he seems unwhole. The reference to the medal ceremony was great.
This comic was a cool story, but I wish it had been more consequential to either Chewbacca's life or the greater galaxy. I enjoyed the peaks into Chewie's past and his family. I'd love to see more miniseries from Marvel that feel like they matter more than this one. I give this graphic novel a 4/5.

This book is a delight. It's truly one of the best comic experiences I've ever had. I thought Lando was a good book. This one is so well written, it just make me smile thinking about it.
The book features a character--a little girl. I'd say she's about 12 or 13. She's a bit of a tomboy. And, she won't stop talking. And...her dad has been rookie-doo'ed by a local crime lord. And, she needs some help. And...this little girl will steal your heart. Especially, if you've got kids of your own.
Picture Tasslehoff Burrfoot, but in the Star Wars universe, and as a human girl pre-teen, and you've got the idea.
Then, throw in the Chewbacca's presentation. I thought we'd see what he was actually saying, but no. The Wookiee is portrayed just as you see him in the movies, with growls and whines. Yet, we still understand what he says.
This one will be a classic, I have no doubt.
This was a great story. It showed the many faces of Chewbacca. I wish there was a translation of what he said. Despite this, I feel like I was able to somewhat understand him. Still a great story.
Chewbacca makes a great secondary character but an awful lead character. He has noises for dialogue and the girl character is good not great. 5.5/10
I have always loved Chewbacca. This series proves his compassion for those in need never wavers. A great read for anyone who is a fan of this fantastic Wookiee!!
I was curious to see how Marvel, Disney and Lucasfilm colab would be in a graphic novel. The art was nice but the story and action were so so. It took me a long time to read because it wasn't very interesting. I love Star Wars but Chewie isn't my fav, I wanted to "get to know" him better and that's why I chose this story but it wasn't spectacular. On a side note, the pages of the book really show up any kind of fingerprints or oil.
This was a decent enough story. It was fun to see Chewbacca in his own adventure but only a little bit of major importance to the saga occurred. The artwork was amazing and the story was well-written I just wasn't completely invested in the characters. I don't say this in a bad way but this is for completists only.
Also, many pages are filled with panels of Chewie's roars and reactions which can be fun for us to interpret but it meant that I finished this entire comic in about an hour.
This trade paperback collects the Chewbacca miniseries from Marvel Comics. The book takes place after the events of the first Star Wars Film (A New Hope). Chewbacca is on a mission for the Rebellion and a problem with his ship leads him to crash land on the planet of Andelm IV. There he looks to find parts to fix his vessel when he comes across Zarro, a young girl on the run from gangsters. Zarro's father, Arrax, is in deep debt to Juam, the crime lord that basically runs the planet, and more importantly a profitable mining operation where he collects resources that he can trade to the Empire. As a result of their debts, Zarro and her father Arrax are forced to work in the mine along with many of the other inhabitants of the planet. Chewbacca has his own problems attempting to repair his ship, but being the hero that he is, is sucked into the conflict and becomes a champion for the enslaved miners.
Overall, this is a solid read that does a good job of fitting Chewbacca's character. Most notably, Gerry Duggan deserves credit for creatively finding a way to write a work around Chewbacca, a character that doesn't exactly speak, by using Zarro and others as the primary drivers of dialog. The art is also quite interesting -- Phil Noto's style has a sort of retro/pop art look and feel to it that actually works well for this book.
