The hard boiled militaristic start almost turned me off, but soon the characters came through and led a satisfying story. I'm sure future books in this series have a strong foundation on which to build.
I've read a lot of books but this was my first special forces wizard book, interesting and well written this is clearly the authors first crack at writing a full blown book but he did it in a way that was still very good and easy to read. Very well written fights, reminiscent of fight scenes from 90's movies and Walker Texas Ranger but also very easy to follow and very well choreographed. All in all worth the read for a nice adventure looking forward to more.
Anyone who's into high paced action or the supernatural will be into this book. Expect engaging characters, unexpected twists, and a satisfying conclusion. There's a buddy adventure, espionage, treason, and military combat set in a world of the hidden supernatural and functional magic.

This is genre literature done right.

A fun little story, potential series. If price point is right, I will enjoy following the journey. Well edited, finely crafted story.
